Town centre patrols

Town centre patrols

Good Morning

Over the past few days, officers have been carrying out high-visibility foot patrols across the town centre as part of our ongoing commitment to keeping the area safe and welcoming for everyone.

During these patrols, we have dealt with a number of incidents of anti-social behaviour at various locations, including McDonald's and the Bus Station. With the school holidays underway, unfortunately a small number of young people have chosen to behave in a manner that has caused disruption to others. Where necessary, appropriate action has been taken.

Officers have also made arrests for theft and drug-related offences, disrupted suspected drug drop activity, and taken action in relation to street drinking. Patrols have continued in areas known for drug activity and other hotspot locations to deter offending and reassure the public.

However, it's not all about enforcement. One of the highlights of these patrols has been the many positive conversations we've had with members of the public. We genuinely value these interactions. Policing can often involve dealing with difficult situations and challenging circumstances, so taking the time to speak with residents, visitors and local businesses is always appreciated and provides a welcome reminder of the strong community spirit within our town.

Thank you to everyone who has stopped to say hello, shared information, or simply taken the time to chat with us.

We will continue to focus on tackling crime and anti-social behaviour in the town centre while ensuring it remains a safe place for those who live, work and visit here.
