Dear Resident
🚨 Community Alert: Students and Young People – Protect Your Property 🎒🏠 With many students now settled into university, college accommodation, and halls of residence, we are reminding everyone to take simple steps to keep themselves and their belongings safe. Unfortunately, opportunist thieves can target unlocked rooms, shared accommodation, and unattended property. A few simple precautions can help reduce the risk of becoming a victim of crime. 🔒 Keep Your Property Secure • Always lock your bedroom door, even if you are only leaving for a short time. • Ensure windows and external doors are closed and locked when leaving the property. • Do not allow unknown persons to "tailgate" into secure accommodation blocks. • Keep valuables such as laptops, tablets, gaming equipment, phones, and jewellery out of sight. 📱 Protect Your Devices • Use passwords, PINs, and biometric security features. • Enable tracking applications where available. • Record serial numbers and register valuable items on property marking databases where possible. 🎒 Look After Personal Belongings • Never leave bags, laptops, or phones unattended in libraries, cafes, gyms, or communal areas. • Be mindful when returning home late at night and avoid displaying expensive items in public. 👥 Look Out for Each Other • Challenge unknown persons in secure accommodation where appropriate. • Report suspicious behaviour to accommodation staff, security teams, or the police. • Speak with friends and flatmates about keeping communal areas secure.
If you have any information in relation to the above please contact the Police on 101 or speak to a local officer or PCSO. Please also check your CCTV or Doorbell camera if you have one during the crime timings to see if there are any activations. It is always worthwhile reviewing your home security and reporting anything that seems suspicious, many offences are preventable with small improvements to your home security. Thanks
