Theft from Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention

Kirklees Neighbourhood Policing Teams would like to remind residents to take a few simple steps to help protect their vehicles from thieves. Many thefts from vehicles are opportunistic and can often be prevented by improving your vehicle's security.

✅ Always lock your vehicle, even if leaving it unattended for a short time.
✅ Never leave valuables on display, including phones, handbags, wallets, laptops, tools, or sat navs.
✅ Remove all belongings from your vehicle whenever possible.
✅ Park in well-lit, busy areas where available.
✅ Use secure car parks and locations covered by CCTV.
✅ Double-check your vehicle is locked before walking away.
✅ Keep vehicle keys away from doors and windows inside your home.
✅ Store keyless entry fobs in a Faraday pouch to prevent signal theft.
✅ Ensure windows, sunroofs, and doors are fully closed and secured.
✅ Consider installing additional security devices such as steering wheel locks, alarms, or tracking systems.
✅ Never leave spare keys inside the vehicle.
✅ Report any suspicious activity around vehicles to the police.

If you witness suspicious activity or believe someone is attempting to gain access to a vehicle, please report it.
