As the nights begin to get darker and daylight hours become shorter, now is the perfect time to review your home security and take a few simple steps to protect your property.

Always lock your doors and windows, even if you are only leaving for a short time.

Keep valuables, keys, handbags and car keys out of sight.

Use timer switches on lights when you're out during the evening.

Ensure sheds, garages and outbuildings are secure and locked.

Consider security lighting, CCTV or a video doorbell to deter offenders.

Avoid advertising holidays or nights away on social media.

Ask a trusted neighbour to keep an eye on your home if you are away.

Report suspicious activity via 101 or online at www.westyorkshire.police.uk/report-it. Always call 999 if a crime is in progress.
