🚒 Crime Prevention & Community Safety Message 🚒
With the warm, dry weather continuing and very little rain over the past week, grass, woodland and moorland areas are extremely dry. Even a small fire can quickly spread and cause significant damage to the environment, wildlife, property, and put lives at risk.
👨👩👧👦 Please take time to speak with your children and young people about the dangers of playing with fire. We have received reports of children in the Toller area yesterday evening attempting to start fires, resulting in West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service being called to the scene.
✅ Explain that lighting fires, setting fire to grass, rubbish, or open spaces is dangerous and can have serious consequences.
✅ Remind them that discarded cigarettes, matches, and lighters can easily start a fire in the current conditions.
✅ Encourage them to report any fire they see immediately by calling 999 and moving to a safe location.
Deliberately starting fires is a criminal offence and can lead to serious legal consequences, as well as risking injury to themselves and others.
Let's work together to keep our communities safe and protect our green spaces during this period of dry weather.
