As the bank holiday is just around the corner, we are reminding residents to take extra care in securing roof-mounted tent boxes. Recent incidents across the district show these items are being targeted due to their high value and ease of removal. The following advice is easy to implement and cost effective.

Please consider the following preventative advice:

Remove the tent box when not in use, especially overnight or for long periods.

If removal isn’t practical, ensure it is secured using manufacturer-approved locks or additional locking devices.

Park vehicles in a garage where possible, or in well-lit areas covered by CCTV.

Consider using motion-activated lighting or alarms that activate if the vehicle or tent box is disturbed.

Purchase a small tracking device that can be placed inside the tent box. This can help increase the chances of recovery.

Mark the tent box with identifiable markings and record serial numbers on the national mobile property register.

You can also go onto then tent box website and navigate to the security section. Here they have different security options for you to choose from.

Anyone witnessing suspicious behaviour around vehicles, particularly attempts to access roof boxes or tent boxes, is urged to report it immediately via 101, or 999 if a crime is in progress.

Simple steps can significantly reduce the risk of becoming a victim.
