Prolific Leeds Shoplifter Jailed and Given Criminal Behaviour Order |

Friday 27 March 2026 A prolific shoplifter has been jailed and made the subject of a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) which will put restrictions on him on his release from prison. Thomas Collett, aged 29, of no fixed abode, was sentenced to three years imprisonment at Leeds Crown Court on Tuesday after pleading guilty to 19 counts of theft from shop, two counts of possession of a bladed article and assault emergency worker. Collett was also made the subject of a four-year Criminal Behaviour Order. The order prohibits him from: entering any Co-op Stores within the Leeds Metropolitan area; entering any Tesco Stores within the Leeds Metropolitan area; entering The Springs Retail Park; and remaining in any retail premises within the Leeds Metropolitan area when asked to leave by a member of staff. PC Carl Wilson, of Leeds East Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “This CBO places long-term restrictions on Collett, meaning that if he resumes his previous pattern of offending after his release from prison, he can face a further custodial sentence. “Although the police play a key role in enforcing this CBO, we also rely on retailers and members of the public to report any potential breaches. The conditions of the order, including the exclusion zone, can also be amended by the courts should any new information arise relating to criminal or anti‑social behaviour. “We recognise the impact that retail crime has on businesses - both in terms of financial loss and the safety of staff. I hope that those working in the retail sector are reassured by the action that has been taken.”
