Dear Resident,
Sometime between 7pm on 11/02/2026 and 6.50am on 12/02/2026, a 19 plate VW Golf was broken into at an address on Moat Hill Close, Cullingworth. The suspect/s smashed the passenger side window, removed the media system from the dashboard and made off unseen. Crime occurrence 13260085905 refers.
Thieves often target vehicles’ in-car infotainment system, which is an integrated device that delivers information and entertainment functionality to drivers and passengers. Thieves tend to target Audis, BMWs, and Volkswagens by smashing the passenger window to remove the infotainment system, making the car unusable. Remember, offences can take place anywhere, in a car park, at the side of the road or even when your car is parked on your drive.
You can reduce the chances of your vehicle being targeted by following our self-help advice tips:
Park in busy, well-lit areas and wherever possible, park in areas covered by CCTV Always lock your vehicle, leaving nothing on show. Remove valuable items – bags, laptops, money, mobile phones, tools, and other portable items are quick and easy to steal Check the door handles before you walk away and activate alarm systems by double-clicking your fob If possible, park your vehicle in a garage Thieves often smash the passenger front side window, so, if possible, park your vehicle to restrict access Use a motion-activated dash cam which alerts you when someone is nearby Consider installing motion-activated CCTV overlooking your vehicle Marking your property, including work tools with a UV pen or forensic fluid such as SmartWater can make them less attractive to thieves
