Please be aware of rouge trades men and what to do if they approach you.

Good morning Calderdale,

We have sadly had rogue traders in Calderdale and victims have lost thousands of pounds of cash. Please make family, friends, and neighbours aware of this situation.

Members of the public are advised to remain vigilant when approached by traders offering groundwork and home repair services.

Warning signs of rogue traders may include:

Cold calling at your property or approaching without an appointment.

Claims of repairs that need immediate action.

Pressure to agree on the spot offers that are “today only”.

Requests for large upfront payments or cash only payments.

Lack of written quotations, contracts, or receipts.

No company registration.

How to protect yourself:

Do not agree to work without obtaining multiple written quotations.

Verify the trader’s business details and check independent reviews.

Never pay the full amount before work in completed.

Avoid paying cash where possible.

Take your time – a legitimate trader will not pressure you.

If you are concerned. Ring a neighbour or a family member to support you. If the trader is getting aggressive tell them you’re calling the Police.
