If you’re shopping with cash, stay safe from pickpockets.

Busy shops, Christmas markets and shopping centres are prime spots for pickpockets. They often work in groups and blend into crowds, so stay alert.

If withdrawing money from the bank, place it in a wallet or purse before leaving. Consider using a money belt or a purse hidden under your clothing.

Checklist:

Keep purses and bags closed and secure. Attach purse bells to alert you if someone tries to remove it.

Carry bags in front or across your chest.

Return cards to your purse/wallet quickly and secure it.

Avoid leaving bags on pushchairs or trolleys.

Use a money belt for large amounts of cash.

Conceal wallets in zipped or buttoned pockets.

Never leave belongings on the floor.
