I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Shoplifting, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. Leeds East Neighbourhood Policing Team have been taking part in Safer Business Action Week (SaBA), engaging with local businesses to address concerns around retail crime, anti-social behaviour and offences affecting businesses.
On Tuesday 11th November, PC Walker from the Temple Newsam and Halton Neighbourhood Policing Team and lead problem-solving officer for The Springs retail park, attended The Springs in company with CPO Walters the Leeds East Crime Prevention Officer and two local Police Community Support Officers, PCSO’s Parker and Powell.
The deployments follow on from historic engagement events held across the retail park, and a continued collaborative approach with the site managers, site security, retail, and leisure outlets to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour across the site. You can read more about police and partner agencies previous engagements at the location at: www.westyorkshire.police.uk/news-appeals/police-and-partners-engage-public-and-businesses-springs-retail-park-leeds
PC Walker and CPO Walters engaged with all retailers and business premises to discuss crime prevention matters, individual stores concerns, reviews of current security mechanisms in place and provided a range of recommendations in relation to deterrence strategies, with a view to reducing offences across the retail park.
A range of practical security advice measures were provided to each business premise, along with shop and staff safety guides, and each business premise was offered a full business security survey.
The store managers were also encouraged to report crime directly to the Police via the relevant reporting channels and not solely to the Springs Security. In addition, key contact details for the Crime Prevention Officer and the lead problem-solving officer were also provided.
The businesses and shoppers also benefited from the high visibility presence of the PCSO’s, who visited stores, engaged with shoppers and members of the public present.
Leeds East NPT will continue to provide reassurance patrols across the site and will engage with businesses, communities, and motorists alike to keep businesses, communities, and motorists safe and feeling safe.
