Suspicious text messages

Good afternoon Calderdale,

We've had a number of reports that people have been receiving suspicious text messages. These messages read like so “Hi Dad/Mum, This is my new number”. These messages are to lead you into a false sense of confidence and then will request money or personal information. 

If you receive one of these messages, call the relative who they're portraying on their original number in your phone and confirm this before interacting with the new number.

If this is a fake message from an unknown number, please report this as junk on your phone and report the number to 101 or crime stoppers so we can act to stop more people from becoming victim to this crime.
