Operation to tackle nuisance bikes - You Said, We did! |
||
Dear Resident,
Throughout the afternoon and evening of Sunday 12th October 2025, officers from Wakefield Central Neighbourhood Team West and the Off-Road Bike Team participated in a joint operation in the Lupset and Thornes area of Wakefield in response to public concerns around the illegal use of electric and off-road vehicles within the ward. Officers targeted repeat locations, patrolled the green public spaces and conducted intelligence led visits directly to the home addresses of the offenders that are suspected of being involved in this type of anti-social behaviour. West Yorkshire Police use a variety of powers in response to these vehicles, from words of advice and warnings to otherwise law-abiding citizens who ride them with a mistaken belief, to more formal action of the vehicle being seized and the prosecution of the rider to those persistently using them, riding them dangerously or using them to commit criminality. Further information relating to the use of these vehicles can be found at https://www.gov.uk/electric-scooter-rules and https://www.gov.uk/electric-bike-rules West Yorkshire Police remain committed to tackling the illegal use of electric and off road vehicles on our roads and other public places and would encourage members of the public to report any information they have regarding the offenders to West Yorkshire Police online at https://www.westyorkshire.police.uk/form/report-nuisance-bikes or directly to our Off-Road Bike Team at wakefield.offroadbikes@westyorkshire.police.uk | ||
