A message from a prolific burglar: A prolific burglar who targeted Asian Jewellery has said he looked for insecure homes which were targeted between 9am -4pm. Home Security • Are your doors locked and windows closed when you’re not at home? Even when you’re at home it is advisable to lock your door. • Look to upgrade your cylinder locks to one’s that have either achieved a 3 star rating under TS 007 and/or the Sold Secure Diamond Standard (SS312). • Enhanced security handles achieving a 2 star rating under TS 007 should also be considered. • Do you have sash jammers fitted? This can add extra security. • Have you considered using timer switches for lights? You can even purchase a fake LED TV simulator that flickers random lights, giving the impression that the TV is on, it is ideal for bedrooms. Gold / Jewellery Security • Have you considered keeping your jewellery in a safety deposit box? Speak to your local bank to find out what’s available. • If you’re keeping it at home it may be wise to put your jewellery in a good quality safe which compiles with official insurance rating standards. • During wedding or religious festivals consider keeping your jewellery hidden until you get to the venue. • Be extra vigilant around religious festivals and weddings by being aware of your surroundings and reporting any suspicious behaviour. • Avoid posting abut weddings or festivals on social media – criminals may see your posts and work out when you won’t be at home or use your photos to identify your jewellery. Note - As with any additional security for homes, try to purchase devices that are Sold Secure tested https://soldsecure.com | ||||
